The Inauguration Speech Never Given
On January 20, 2017, someone will become the president of the United States. I'm not too hopeful for either candidate. However, there is one perfect outcome. It is embodied in the possible speech that any of our current nominees could give.
My fellow Americans,
Thank you for your support this year. It's an incredible honor to be elected President of the United States. But I must be honest...I'm disappointed.
You made the wrong decision.
Yes, you heard me right. You all made a HUGE mistake. I didn't think I'd get this far.My track record speaks for itself. I have been inconsistent with my stance on multiple issues. My refusal to release the documents that you all deserve to see should prove that I'm hiding something. Furthermore, I've been uncivil to citizens, and to my opponent.I once trusted the American people. I believed that they would choose someone to lead them that represented their ideals.
Well, you succeeded there.
I pretended to be an uncaring, untrustworthy flip-flopper with a host of obvious character flaws. You wanted that to lead your country for four years? Are you kidding me?I don't trust America anymore. America used to care about freedom and independence. Not reckless freedom, but responsible freedom. The responsibility to make wise decisions that serve the community at large. An election where everyone votes for the lesser of two evils doesn't serve anyone. It was said during one of my debates that America is great because it is good. But we can't achieve that by electing someone who is clearly not good.
2016 will go down in history as the year America was tested and failed miserably.
The President of the United States was once a role that held dignity. Kids ten or twenty years ago aspired to be the president. They knew that whoever held public office was someone with honor, dignity, and integrity. We need that now more than ever. I've pretended to be the opposite of that for a while now. No more. I am far from perfect and have made mistakes. But I'm dedicated to this country. To upholding our laws and our values. To standing for what is right.
That's why you all get a second chance.
I refuse to run for a second term. In four years, you'll all have to choose a new president. I plead with you not to select your president based on questionable policies, fancy rhetoric, or the one with the most memes around their name. Cast your vote for who is good. Someone who can discern the difference between right and wrong and always choose what is right. It was once said on television that, "The first step to solving any problem is recognizing there is one. America is not the greatest country in the world anymore.", but I say we can be. We can gain back what we once had, but only if we strive to become great. To do that we must first strive to be good. That starts with improving ourselves. That translates into who we vote for to represent us. Strive to become good and vote for good people. You have until 2020.
