Daily Routine: Along My Morning Run
On the days I'm fortunate enough to gain the chance and motivation to do so, I go on a morning run. Ideally, this would be part of my daily routine, but I'm still working on that. Now, people run for a lot of reasons. I joined the Pokemon GO game too late to have any chance at being the very best, and I don't aspire to run a marathon...
So Why a Morning Run?
1. So I Never Stop
I'm incredibly skinny and can run a mere mile before my lungs retaliate and force me to stop. So why do I put myself through that? The fact that I ran a full mile and then did it a second time to get home is still a great accomplishment. Knowing that I achieved a goal as simple as that propels me through my day. After all, if I can run all the way to the park, who's to say I can't finish my killer blog post, complete a challenging video, and get my reading done too?
2. To Enjoy the Scenery
As I begin my run, I pass all the houses in our neighborhood. I see the well-kept lawns, the new flowers planted three houses down, and the neighbors walking their dogs. As I go a bit farther, I reach the kid's park in our neighborhood. There, the caretakers are trimming the grass and the smell of petrichor is fresh in the air.I continue, almost halfway out of stamina. As I get over a small hill, I see the progress the construction crew has made on the new houses. They've been working for a while, but the houses look better each time.I'm nearly out of breath when finally, I come upon the crowning glory of my run. I reach thepark. The large gazebo sits in the middle of this great expanse of grass and trees. After taking some time to walk around, take in the sights, and get my breath back, I make my way to my favorite bench.
3. My Bench
What makes this my favorite bench? From that bench, the picture to the left is my view. This picture was taken in the middle of the day, but just imagine how it looks in the morning. With the sun just peeking over the horizon, creating an orange, pink, and purple sky, the colors reflected in the water are exquisite. This isn't the main reason I like this bench, though. It's my favorite because it is here that I am quiet. Where I pray, read the Bible, think, and decide what my day is going to consist of. It's here that I start the day off right.
4. The Trip Home
It's always harder to make the run back to my house. I have less energy, the sun is higher, and I know that when I get home it will be time to get to work on video editing. But I already have a great accomplishment behind me. I will have run two miles and been rewarded with the gorgeous scenery and time with God. Knowing that I was able to do that and gain those benefits from it will push me to push myself throughout the day. I only spent 40 minutes on my run, but if I apply myself for the rest of the day as I did to my morning run, I'll reap more benefits and be more productive as a result.
